We are excited to welcome clarinet master craftsman, designer, and Founder of Backun Musical Services Morrie Backun to Melbourne!
Backun Artist David Griffiths (Professor in Music Performance - Clarinet, Melbourne Conservatorium) is joining Morrie for this session on all things clarinet, including tuning, voicing, maintenance and the behind-the-scenes of engineering instruments and accessories.
Internationally renowned as one of the most influential clarinet makers of our time, Morrie has reshaped modern clarinet design through innovation, exceptional craftsmanship, and close collaboration with performers.
Morrie is eager to meet the Melbourne clarinet community and will be sharing his insights and wealth of experience, built up over a lifetime as a performing artist and master craftsman.
Available for trial are the full range of Backun clarinets and accessories, including some very special, never before seen models!
We will be joined by Stuart Brownley from D’Daddario, who will also have a range of exciting products for trial.

To kick things off, Morrie will be discussing all things clarinet, including tuning, voicing, maintenance and the behind-the-scenes of engineering instruments and accessories. Morrie is eager to meet the Sydney clarinet community and will be sharing his insights and wealth of experience, built up over a lifetime as a performing artist and master craftsman.
This will be followed by a Masterclass lead by David Griffiths, one of Australia's most respected and sought-after clarinet pedagogues. Participants in David Griffiths’ Masterclasses have been finalised and we warmly invite you to attend this open session.

Orchestral Clarinet Insights: A Clarinet Course with Phil Green and Andrew Seymour
Join legendary Australian clarinettists and Backun Artists Phil Green (Associate Principal Clarinet, Opera Australia Orchestra) and Andrew Seymour (Principal Clarinet, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra; D'Addario Artist) for a weekend of masterclasses, product demonstrations, performances and Q+As!
Eight masterclass participants will have the opportunity to work with Andrew or Phil on a variety of orchestral, opera and ballet excerpts—this is strictly limited so register your interest below! If participant spaces are full and you're still interested in learning from some of Australia's best, please register as an auditor and/or consider signing up for a one-on-one lesson with Andrew!
Course clarinettists will also have the opportunity to learn about and try the instruments and gear Phil and Andrew swear by, including Backun custom clarinets, the Vocalise and Signature mouthpieces, barrels, and bells, and D'Addario Organic Reeds.
All attendees will also be entered into a Backun Mouthpiece Giveaway!
